The pavilion offers facilities for the aesthetic subjects including metal and wood work.

The Chateau d’Argenteuil offers old world charm and facilities for the boarding school, ballrooms and the school restaurant. The outside environment includes an artificial grass football field, a multi-sport field, a cross country track, track and field facilities, outdoor basket and tennis courts. There are also several covered and open multi-functional recreational areas.

Sports activities

The different activities offered can vary every year according to the demand. We propose a large and diversified choice of activities in order to give every student several possibilities to join the after school sports programme. The idea is that every single student should be able to find a sport that he or she really enjoys. Having fun is the best incentive for getting the exercise we all need.

A multitude of sports for students of all ages

After school hours, SSB offers a multitude of sports for all ages every day of the week. On the school premises there is a large, newly built Sports Hall with facilities for every possible indoor sport. Our close co-operation with the local sports clubs makes it possible for us to offer activities outside the campus area as well.

Creative activities

We also offer students a range of creative after school activities. The students are challenged to be creative and discover things in different ways than during regular school lessons.

Students are challenged to be creative

We propose many different activities so that every student can find an activity that he or she really likes. The activities can vary from year to year according to demand. We continuously update our after school programme by listening to the students’ suggestions.

Culture School — music school at campus

We are convinced that musical and artistic ability will enhance many other talents as well. The purpose of the Culture School is to develop musical and artistic talent along with creativity, teamwork and stage presence.

Developing musical and artistic talent along with creativity

Within the framework of the Culture School, we offer a wide selection of cultural activities and experiences for the students, and for their parents, too.

Singing and playing various instruments are the most popular activities at the Culture School.

Under the guidance of professional and highly committed music teachers, the students can choose to play any number of musical instruments, or singing, individually or in a group.

The Music Café brings the school to life

Once or twice every term they get to show their talents at the Music Café. These events are always very popular, and many rate them as the real highlights of the school year.

Sometimes it is hard just to keep up

There are new things to learn every single day and information coming from everywhere. If you realise you need some assistance, it’s good to know there is help to be had.

At SSB there are three special support functions we call the Language, the Math and the Writing Studio. They are open one afternoon a week for the students to come and get help from dedicated teachers.

Our Special Needs Teachers will give assistance to students in need of extra help. We also have a number of specially trained teachers at SSB who care for students in need of extra assistance.

Together with the parents and the other teachers they ensure that all students get the help they need.

Everyone who works with students at SSB believes all students can reach their full potential with the right support.

All teachers have a responsibility to continually observe and report student progress to identify any possible special needs concerns. Classroom teachers monitor academic progress and tutors monitor overall student development, including social development.

All staff share the responsibility of supporting every student. All of our teachers understand the complexity in the development process, especially for students with identified learning challenges.

At SSB, we also believe that the best possible support extends beyond the school hours, and therefore, we always seek to develop strong, open relationships with parents.

This relationship starts at admission. Upon admission, students and parents are asked to provide the school with all relevant information to the student’s learning style and needs.

The academic and social support for all students at SSB is monitored by the Student Care team. The team meets every week to ensure active, continual, and systematic follow-up. If it is determined through thorough assessment that a student needs extra support, a Plan for Special Measures is developed for the child.

To support classroom learning, we have special needs teachers who work actively with classroom instruction, peer coaching, development and assessment. Technology is used where appropriate as an aid for the student.

Fresh, healthy, balanced lunches every day

The school chefs serve fresh, healthy, balanced lunches every day for all members of our community, as well as breakfast, dinner and weekend brunch for boarders. The restaurant’s mission is to make a selection of healthy food available for pupils and teachers served in an attractive and relaxed environment, providing excellent nutrition for the whole community and the chance to relax and share a meal with friends.

The catering team prepare home-made food from scratch, endeavouring to use local, seasonal ingredients in preparing varied, fresh, balanced menus. Besides the lunch buffet that consists of the menu of the day and a vegetarian choice, there is also a salad bar, where different varieties of fresh vegetables are served every day.

The restaurant also caters for children with specific dietary requirements, preparing dishes in respect of religious beliefs, specific illnesses, food intolerances and allergies, upon request.

There are many mobility options for coming to the Scandinavian School of Brussels

By bike – as many of the families of the Scandinavian School live in or near Waterloo, many High School students choose to cycle to school. The streets in Waterloo have bike lanes and there are many streets that do not have much traffic around school.

SSB has significantly increased the number of bike racks on campus as the number of biking students increases and to encourage more students to come by bike. Campus is located approximately two kilometres from the centre of Waterloo.

By school bus – we offer an efficient and extensive bus service for all
students at campus. This service is provided by a trusted private bus company who makes sure our students get to school safe and on time.

Our bus routes are adjusted every year depending on where the students live. Roughly they cover Waterloo, Rhode-Saint-Genèse, Braine l’Alleud, Lasne and municipalities southeast of Brussels. We pick up students as close to their home addresses as possible and we always aim to find the most direct and quickest route to have our students on the bus for the shortest amount of time possible. The Bus Coordinator can provide you with more information when needed.

By car – SSB has an effective “drop off” roundabout on campus in the mornings, which allows for quick, safe and easy drop-off of our students of all ages. The students can be dropped off right at the entrance and will go directly into the school and their respective classroom. This is an option that most families choose.

As presented, the Scandinavian School of Brussels is accessible via many modes of transportation depending on where you live. A safe town surrounding the area of 30,000 inhabitants, Waterloo provides all kinds of shops, services, restaurants and amenities you will need.
The town is outside the city of Brussels and known as a very safe area to raise children.

Waterloo and the surrounding towns have many quiet, tree-lined neighborhoods where children can play outside safely. The region also provides many opportunities for outdoor life, including the large Forêt de Soignes and the area around the Château de la Hulpe where you can hike, bike, run for hours and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the region with your family.
