Key facts about SSB!

SSB is located in a beautiful wooded parkland on the outskirts of Waterloo, 15 kilometers south of Brussels' centre with modern school buildings including a new sports hall with climbing wall, a main school building with new laboratories, several computer rooms and a mediatec, Chateau d'Argenteuil offering charming facilities for the aesthetic subjects, the boarding school and the school restaurant. A master plan for the creation of a safe and functional out-door environment has been approved and is to a large extent already implemented.

SSB was founded in 1973 and is serving the Nordic community in Brussels offering education for students speaking any of the Nordic languages like Swedish, Norwegian, Finish, Danish or Icelandic.

SSB offers a national/Nordic education for students in class 1-7, where students can choose between a Scandinavian or a French stream. Upper secondary offers a Norwegian and a Swedish programme as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Bilingual education with native speakers as teachers in French and English is a frequent part of our whole programme.

SSB has 400 students ranging in age from 2 to 19

SSB has a student/teacher ratio: 10 to 1

SSB has 60 teachers from 10 different countries offering lessons in the Nordic languages and in English and French. Students can also study German and Spanish

SSB students achieve excellent results and are usually above the average of National exams. Students taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma have, over a number of years, achieved very good results.

SSB is accredited by the school authorities in Sweden, Norway and Finland. Danish and Icelandic students are either following the Norwegian or the Swedish curriculum with specific lessons in their mother tongues. SSB has also been accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization since 1985

SSB is affiliated with SUF - Svenska Utlandsskolors Förening, NUF – Norske Utlandsskolers Forening and CESSIB - Council of English-Speaking Schools in the Benelux
